Outreach Paralegal Support Worker or Senior Paralegal Support Worker

• Generous SCHCADS Award salary on offer Level 4 Pay Point 4 – $94,788.72 per annum to Level 5 Pay Point 3 $105,340.56 per annum (dependent on experience)
• This position can be based in any Djirra office (Abbotsford, Bendigo, Melton, Mildura, Morwell, Shepparton or Warrnambool) providing outreach as necessary

• Djirra is looking for an Outreach Paralegal Support Worker or Senior Paralegal Support Worker to join our Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service (AFVLS). In this role, you’ll provide culturally safe, trauma informed support to Aboriginal women experiencing family violence or sexual assault, assisting across child protection, family law, victims of crime and family violence matters.

About the Role

The Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service (AFVLS) is a program of Djirra. AFVLS provides legal and non-legal assistance and facilitates access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced family violence or sexual assault. AFVLS’s legal services include advice, representation and advocacy in the areas of:

• child protection
• family violence intervention orders
• family law; and
• victims of crime assistance.

AFVLS operates a culturally safe, trauma informed, holistic and intensive client service model. Clients are assisted by Lawyers and Paralegal Support Workers to access a variety of legal, social, psychological, cultural, health and other support ser-vices to address their complex needs and issues.

Paralegal Support Workers provide wrap-around support within this model, including: emotional support; court support; direct financial support; support in interactions with police; support with access to legal aid; support accessing transport; and connecting clients with culturally safe counselling and support services to address the underlying social issues giving rise to the client’s experience of family violence and associated legal issues.

Requirements

Essential

• Willing to obtain a Police Check
• Willing to obtain a Victorian Employees Working with Children Check (WWCC)
• Current and full driver’s Licence
• Senior Paralegal Support Workers must have a degree or diploma in a related field and/or previous demonstrated experience in a similar role within a legal setting or an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

Desirable

• Qualification in community service or paralegal studies
