Greystones Group has an opportunity for a Senior Database Administrator supporting a contract with the Navy. This role serves as a technical lead within a 10-person team responsible for overhauling and consolidating multiple database environments into a unified, cloud-based system. The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and experienced in Agile delivery environments.

Salary: $110-140k

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead Database Administrator for a major Navy database modernization initiative.
  • Overhaul existing database systems and support the consolidation into a single, streamlined architecture.
  • Administer and optimize cloud-based database environments in alignment with Navy standards and security requirements.
  • Work extensively with Advana/Jupyter, Databricks, and related data engineering toolsets.
  • Support scripting, automation, and data workflows using Python.
  • Collaborate within an Agile team, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative delivery.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior database and data engineering staff.
  • Ensure database security, integrity, and compliance with DoD requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex data and system issues and implement sustainable resolutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Management or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Database Administration.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or Data Engineering focused DBA.
  • Experience with cloud-based database administration (AWS, Azure, or related platforms).
  • Hands-on experience with Advana/Jupyter and Databricks.
  • Strong skills in database optimization, performance tuning, backup/restore, and data lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency with Python for database management, scripting, and automation.
  • Experience working within Agile teams or DevSecOps environments.
  • Ability to lead technical workstreams and collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Security+ certification or other DoD 8570-compliant credential.
  • Prior experience supporting Navy or DoD programs.
  • Experience consolidating or migrating large-scale enterprise databases.
